Àirdan

Àirdan are a rising voice in the world of Scottish traditional music. Their high energy grooves and dynamic arrangements see melodies and riffs juggled between fiddle (Paul Sinclair), accordion (Coll Williamson), guitar (David Lennon), and drums (Ewa Adamiec). Formed in 2021, Àirdan’s journey began in the heart of Edinburgh’s thriving live music and session scene, where their shared passion for traditional music - and for pushing its boundaries - brought them together. Their sound is shaped by the acoustic energy of late night Celtic sessions, enriched by influences from diverse roots and travels to far flung corners of the globe.

In 2024, they celebrated a sold out run at the Acoustic Music Centre as part of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Àirdan are a high-energy trad band whose diverse roots and dynamic arrangements put a fresh spin on Scottish folk music.

Our Sound

We first started Àirdan due to our shared love of Scottish traditional music, resulting in a sound that is firmly rooted in this tradition. We then infuse this with a fresh and contemporary energy, and incorporate elements from our individual cultures, including influences from Nordic and Polish traditions, Indian classical music, West African drumming, and Irish traditional tunes. This results in a unique soundscape that reflects the band’s multicultural makeup and our belief that traditional music is a living, evolving art form that nonetheless maintains deep roots. Our music is instantly recognisable as being traditionally Scottish, while also being uniquely Àirdan.
